Byliśmy zachwyceni piękną pogodą, jednak pan który nas wiózł ochłodził nasz entuzjazm „Dojedźmy do Thompson Pass” jeśli tam będzie ładna pogoda to w Valdez też będzie ładna pogoda”, po czym po chwili dodał „Na Thompson Pass nigdy nie ma ładnej pogody”. Dotarliśmy do Thompson Pass, słońce zniknęło za chmurami, zaczął padać deszcz, wiać wiatr a wszyskie okoliczne góry skryły się we mgle….w Valdez ładnej pogody nie będzie.
W ramach wyjaśnienie Thompson Pass jest to przełęcz na drodze Glennallen Highway położona w górach Chugach Mountains i ‚broniąca dostęp’ do miasta Valdez. Największą ciekawostką tego miejsca jest to, że jest uznawane za najbardziej śnieżne miejsce na całej Alasce! W ciągu zimy 1952/53 spadło 2.5m śniegu! Co lepsze jednego dnia w 1955 spadło 1.6m śniegu!!

We were delighted with the beautiful weather, but man who picked up us curb our enthusiasm „If at Thompson Pass will be good weather you will see nice weather in Valdez” and he added, „At the Thompson Pass I’ve never encounter nice weather.” We arrived at the Thompson Pass, the sun disappeared behind the clouds, it started to rain, wind was blowing all surrounding mountains hid in the fog …. for sure we will not have nice weather in Valdez.
Thompson Pass is a 855 meter-high gap in the Chugach Mountains northeast of Valdez, Alaska. It is the snowiest place in Alaska, recording 1,401 cm of snow per year on average. In the winter of 1952–1953, 2,475 cm of snow fell—the most ever recorded in one season at one location in Alaska.
